这些国债，在过去从1991年至今，从来有增无减过。
从1997年的900亿，飆升至今年杪的4372亿了。。。
这样烂的情况若没有改善，
预计2020年时我国政府的债务将突破1万亿大关，届时国家破产情况堪虞。
若中央政府债务若每年以500亿令吉的速度增长，
则这个国家到2020年将欠债1万亿令吉（RM1,000,000,000,000.00）。
经济学者警告，如果中央政府的借贷额继续高于收入，大马国债将于2019年达到国内生产总值的100%。
中央政府的收入增长太缓慢，跟不上借贷的步伐，
我国在2010年的国债已经达到国内生产总值的53.1%。
虽然目前的国债规模还未造成困扰，
但是近年来国债的增长趋势却必须受到关注。
大马的国债与国内生产总值比例，已经从2008年的41.4%，增至2010年的53.1%，政府债务在2008年增长了14.6%，而在2009年则增加了18.3%，超越了大马国内生产总值的增长率。
